Located in Paris’s 6th arrondissement, the Théâtre de l’Odéon is now one of France’s six national theatres.
Opened in 1782, it was originally home to the Théâtre-Français company.
Architecturally, it is an Italian-style theatre with neoclassical façades.
Its history has been marked by: two fires (in 1799 and 1818); the public premiere of Beamarchais’s The Marriage of Figaro in 1784; and the occupation of the premises during the events of May 1968.
