From 9,00

Félix Faure (1841-1899) was a French statesman. He was President of the Republic from January 1895 until his death. A successful entrepreneur, he entered politics: elected four times as deputy for Seine Maritime, sitting with the moderate Republicans.

Appointed Minister of the Navy, he was elected President of the Republic after just a few months, thanks to the support of monarchists and moderates. His presidency was marked by the Dreyfus affair, which divided France into two resolutely opposed camps.

The circumstances of his death, which occurred suddenly at the Élysée Palace while he was in the company of his mistress, are well known to posterity.
