Bastille Column, or July Column, Paris, France
The July Column on the Place de la Bastille commemorates the three days of the July Revolution in 1830, which led to the fall of the Restoration regime of Charles X and the establishment of the July Monarchy under Louis-Philippe I, Duke of Orléans, King of France.
The column bears the names of the victims of these revolutionary days. The top is adorned with a gilded bronze: Le Génie de la Liberté. The column was erected on the site of a necropolis containing the bodies of revolutionaries who fell during the 3 days.
