The “Icelanders’ pardon” is a traditional ceremony and maritime festival that has been held on the Brittany coast since the mid-19th century. Its purpose: to protect sailors who set out to fish for cod in the waters off Newfoundland, Canada.

In these votive celebrations, the cod fisherman is celebrated as a hero ready to sacrifice himself, both for his family and for the prestige and economy of his homeland.
