Louis Garneray, the draughtsman of this image ( his signature is seen in the left-hand corner), was familiar with this type of warship as a sailor, a privateer, an adventurer, a writer and a marine painter. He also wrote a accurate description of the famous English pontons where French sailors were held as prisoners. He spent 8 long years there.
