Photographic enigma on altered glass plate

Chemical alterations combined on this very old photographic glass plate have produced this astonishing visual enigma. A supernatural door seems to open in a landscape of hills and lakes. On the surface of the plate, dust or silver deposits cast small, highly unusual shadows.
