Victor Duruy (1811-1894) was a French politician and historian. He was Minister of Public Instruction under the Second Empire, from 1863 to 1869.

He was the author of numerous geography textbooks and popular history books for secondary schools, which were also popular with the general public.

In 1851, he opposed Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte’s coup d’état and the restoration of the Empire.
