The Vesuvius funicular railway is a tourist funicular railway located on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius. Opened in 1880, it operated until 1944, when it was closed and left abandoned. It was dismantled and scrapped in 1951.
The famous song Funiculì funiculà was composed in 1880, with lyrics in Neapolitan, to commemorate the inauguration of the funicular railway.
