Gems of engravings from the late 19th century French popular serial novels – N°10
In the second half of the 19th century in France, each time a new episode of a serial novel was published in a newspaper, an illustration of the associated novelistic atmosphere was created, often melodramatic.
The images were highly expressive, providing a strong visual support for the imagination. They were combined with a subtitle taken from the story.
For this engraving, the title was : Charlotte told him not to turn round, and not to wait for her, whatever he came up with.
