The Vendée War — or the Wars of the Vendée — was a civil war fought in western France between the Republicans (known as the ‘Blues’) and the Royalists (the ‘Whites’) during the French Revolution between 1793 and 1796, with final flare-ups in 1799, 1815 and 1832.
It was closely linked to the Chouannerie, which took place on the right bank of the Loire, to the north, whilst the Vendée uprising occurred to the south, on the left bank. These two conflicts are sometimes collectively referred to as the ‘Wars of the West’
