View of the new London Bridge during its construction, 1834.
On the left, the old bridge, still used by crowds, and on the right the new bridge that will replace it. The old bridge is damaged: it has a wooden arch. The new bridge has higher arches and a longer span. Numerous hoists take it in turns to haul the stone blocks from the boats on the river to the construction site on the bridge deck.
