Located in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, the Palais du Luxembourg has been the seat of the French Senate since 1799. It was built in the early 17th century during the regency of Marie de Médicis, Queen of France and Navarre.
The palace and the neighbouring garden have kept the name of the former Hôtel de Luxembourg, which belonged to François de Piney-Luxembourg, who had it built and lived there for a time before selling it to Marie de Médicis.
