The Dordogne village of Les Eyzies-de-Tayac is a world-famous prehistoric archaeological site. Among its many discoveries is the skeleton of “modern man”, or Homo Sapiens, found in 1868 in a ditch (Cro in French dialect) on the property of a Monsieur Magnon. Hence “Cro Magnon Man”.
