During the Revolutionary Wars, French troops crossed the river Rhine on several occasions:
October 1792: temporary occupation of Frankfurt
late 1794: first invasion of Holland
September 1795: second invasion of Holland
May–June 1796: two crossings
April 1797: French Republican forces commanded by Hoche crossed the river near Neuwied, where a battle took place
March 1799: General Jourdan crossed the Rhine at Kehl.
April and May 1800: 100,000 men of the French army crossed the river once again to face the Austrians at the Battle of Stockach.
